Dr. Jacob Dean

Food and Travel Writer and Psychologist

Dr. Jacob Dean is a food and travel writer based in New York City. His work has appeared in Vice (Munchies), The Takeout, The Washington Post, Roads & Kingdoms, The Cook's Cook, DCist, Edible DC, Washington City Paper, TechCrunch, Everyday Carry, and more. He has worked as a freelance recipe tester for the New York Times and is an Associate Editor at The Cook's Cook where he writes travel features, profiles, and product reviews. He travels as much as he can and has visited over 30 countries for both work and pleasure.

In addition to his work as a food and travel writer, Jacob also holds a doctorate in psychology (Psy.D.) as well as a master's degree in forensic psychology and a master's degree in clinical psychology. He has worked as a psychotherapist providing outpatient therapy to individuals and groups, but specializes in conducting psychological assessments. He also has experience and training working with a forensic population, including court-involve. In addition to his psychology career he has worked at a bookstore, library, Japanese restaurant, and as an intern for the New Hampshire Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, helping to process crime scenes and conduct autopsies.
